@Kev: Yes, gets rid of absolutely everything except an "Optus Zoo" entry in the main menu, which I haven't found a way removing yet.

Mate this thing worked a gem, your instructions are clear and on the money.

Anyone who has an Australian version of the Nokia, don't be afraid to flash using this method. Just take your time and follow the steps as described.

Thanks again!

Thank you very much. I had a TIM branded E71 and when I have updated it with the new firmware made by TIm (full of junk appps)it was full of bugs: the *#0000# and *#06# didn't work anymore, the phone stoped responding when a new sms was received and many more. Now it works just fine.

@Jason: Hi Jason, I believe there has been another update released since I originally wrote this post, so the "generic" firmware may still be more recent than what you currently have. Changing the product code and updating did remove the Optus splash screen for me, so you still might like to give it a try.

hi there..
i have an optus e71 as well and was able to upgrade the firmware to the current one u have (without needing to use NSS). However the only thing that remains optus is the splash screen when you turn off the phone. Any idea how i can remove that?

Thanks

Thanks heaps! your a legend. worked on my e71 australian vodafone branded.

NOTE: After restoring my backup data I got the "Phone Startup Failed: Contact Retailer" message. I was able to fix it by doing a format on my phone by swiching it off then holding 3 keys: green call button, 3, and * and then swiching it back on while holding the buttons.

Works fine now tho :D

You are more game than I am Lloyd.

I was never game to update my Windows Mobile with a newer version of software for fear of bricking it. Just got a new (i)phone though, so now it might be time to try upgrading my old O2 Atom with some fancy hacked OS!
